끊어지는 숨 따라 이어지는 그 길,
아 ! 배고픔과 눈물이 거기에 흐를지라도
십자가만 보인다면 갈 수 있으리

라틴어 비아돌로로사 (Via Dolorosa)는 "슬픔의 길"이라는 뜻으로서 빌라도 법정에서 골고다 언덕에 이르기까지의 십자가 수난의 길을 말한다.
이 길은 본디오 빌라도에게 재판을 받으신 곳으로부터 십자가를 지고 골고다로 향해 걸으시던 약 800 m 의 길, 그리고 골고다에서의 십자가 처형에 이르기 까지의 전 과정을 말하고 있다.
 
이 길은 복음서에 근거한 역사적인 길이라기보다는 순례자들의 신앙적인 길로써 14세기 프란시스컨 수도사들에 의해 비로소 확정된 길이다.
 
오늘날 순례자들이 걷는 이 길에 마련된 14개 장소는 18세기에 와서야 확정된 것이며, 19세기 이후 고고학 발굴을 통하여 일부는 확정되기도 하였다.
